The Philippine Women’s National Team ended their successful AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign with a 1-5 defeat at the hands of Jordan yesterday at the Republican Central Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
With qualification to the final round already secure, the Filipinas headed to the match against Jordan eager to have a preview of what was to come in the Women’s Asian Cup which will be held in Jordan next year.
Unfortunately, the Filipinas had to deal with a superior Jordan squad, which held a three-goal lead at the half. Luna Al-Masari netted for Jordan in the 15th minute followed by two goals from Maysa Jbrah in the 29th and 37th minutes.
Al-Masri added in a fourth goal in the 48th minute before Jordan captain Stephanie Al-Naber competed the rout in the 67th minute.
Not to be totally outdone, the Filipinas made sure that they would finish the Qualifiers on a high note. Substitute Alisha del Campo came on in the 90th minute and went to score a minute later to give the Philippines a consolation goal. Del Campo’s goal also ensured the Philippines would end the qualifiers having scored in all five matches.
The Filipinas finished the Qualifiers with 10 points on the back of three wins, one loss, and one clinching draw to advance to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which serves as the qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. — CAL
