Global Cebu in Must-Win AFC Cup Match

Global Cebu FC’s AFC Cup hopes hang by a thread ahead of their AFC Cup ASEAN zonal semifinal second leg against Singaporean side Home United FC tonight at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.

Global looked all set to come away with the first leg win last May 16, but Stipe Plazibat came out of nowhere to snatch a late equalizer to give the Singaporean side the edge in the tie with two away goals.

Global coach Marjo Allado views this match as a do or die for his club especially with defender Amani Aguinaldo suspended for the match. A 1-0 win will be enough for Global to advance to the zonal finals scheduled this August.

“The tournament is a two-legged match which means if we don’t get the advantage in the first leg, we have a chance in the second leg to pull it off,” said Allado. “It’s do or die for us especially since we’re playing away. It will not be an easy game for us.”

The Cebu based squad had a demanding schedule leading up to the second-leg having played three games in a span of eight days. Global drew Home 2-2 last May 16 and followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Stallion Laguna last May 21. Their last match was a 3-1 win over Kaya FC Makati last May 24.

“We have to regroup and focus what’s in front of us,” said Allado. “The players are well prepared because the match is a deciding game.”

Goalkeeper Patrick Deyto echoed Allado’s words ahead of the crunch tie.

“We’re fresh and we’re gonna be coming here with the mindset to win,” said Deyto. “We have to do what we have to do to get in to the next round.”

The match kicks off at 8:30 PM and will be shown LIVE on Fox Sports 2 — CAL
