Global, JP Voltes Continue Hot UFL League Start

Both Global FC and JP Voltes FC maintained strong starts in the 2016 UFL League with a couple of convincing wins on Saturday, May 7, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Misagh Bahadoran continued his tremendous scoring run. The Global captain scored twice to help his team inflict an 8-0 win over Laos FC.

An own goal from Laos player Michael Atienza gifted Global the lead in the opening minutes of the match. The defender, who was marking Bahadoran inside the box, inadvertently directed the ball into the goal

Bahadoran followed it up with his first goal four minutes later, with a clinical strike from a tight angle.

OJ Clarino made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. The winger unleashed a curler from the edge of the box to beat Felipe Tripulca.

Bahadoran extended the lead with his second goal right before half-time. The forward delivered a scintillating half-volley from a Matthew Hartmann cross to give Global a four-goal cushion at the half.

Two quick goals from substitute Paolo Bugas and Hikaru Minegishi gave Global an insurmountable 6-0 lead midway in the second half. Bugas scored with his first touch from the rebound in the 69th minute. Minegishi found the back of the net with a strike off Omid Nazari’s lay off.

Mark Winhoffer and Omid Nazari capped off the win with two more goals to finish the match at 8-0.

“I’m very happy (about the win),” said Global coach Leigh Manson. “We could have gone top of the league if we had scored one more goal today, but they did what was expected for them.”

In the earlier match, JP Voltes made quick work of Nomads SC with a 5-0 win. John Celiz scored an early goal in the third minute. Newcomers Takumi Uesato and Alen Angeles netted a brace each as the newly promoted side leapfrogged everyone to go on top of the table toting a +11 goal differential.

The League continues on Sunday, May 8th. Green Archers United will look to claim their first win against Pasargad at 2:00 PM. Loyola Meralco Sparks and Stallion lock horns in the second game at 4:00 PM. Both games will be at Rizal Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available at the gate. — CAL
