Global Reclaim Top Spot, Score Eight Past Agila MSA

Global FC poured in the goals as the 2016 Cup champions defeated Agila MSA FC, 8-0, in the United Football League last Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Following their quarterfinal exit from the Singapore Cup, head coach Leigh Manson made several changes to his side. Spanish striker Juan Carlos Ortiz, who started for the first time for Global, delivered four goals to put Global back on the top of the table with 24 points.

Ortiz fired the first goal home in the 10th minute with a header off a Paolo Bugas cross. Charley Pettys added a second just four minutes later with a close ranged header from Ivan Petrovic’s delivery. The Spaniard then scored his second at the stroke of half-time from a well timed pass by Louis Kaole to put Global 3-0 ahead at the half.

Omid Nazari added a fourth goal three minutes after the restart. Petrovic put the People’s Club five goals ahead from the spot at the hour mark. Hikaru Minegishi provided further damage with a sixth goal in the 83rd minute.

Ortiz completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute from the spot and then provided another goal in the 90th minute to cap off a dominant performance from the forward.

It’s a battle of the leaders against the bottom two this Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The Sparks face Pasargad FC in the first game at 1:45 PM. Bacolod’s Ceres La Salle FC take on Laos FC in the second game at 4:00 PM. — CAL
