Global Stunned as Home United Claim Late 2-2 Draw

Global Cebu FC squandered the opportunity to snatch an important AFC Cup ASEAN zonal semifinal first leg win after a 2-2 draw against Home United last night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Goals from Darryl Roberts and Amani Aguinaldo had already given Global a one-goal lead in the second half, but the Singaporean side dug deep in injury time and snuck in a late equalizer from Stipe Plazibat.
To make things worse heading in to the second leg, Global finished the match down to ten men after Aguinaldo was sent off in the last 15 minutes.
Global almost had the dream start when in the 10th minute they found the back of the net only to have the goal disallowed. Germaine Agustien found Shu Sasaki with an inviting long ball to the box only for the linesman to rule the winger offside.
However, the early setback did not dampen Global’s mood and they were rewarded five minutes later. Roberts finished off a fine build-up play in the Home box.
Despite Global’s attacking threat, the visitors somehow found a way to draw level in the 34th minute. Faris Ramli found the time to cut it back for an on-rushing Adam Swandi to finish. The first half ended at 1-1.
Aguinaldo restored Global’s lead just eight minutes from the restart. The defender provided a fine finish after Home United failed to clear their lines from the corner kick.
However, Aguinaldo turned from hero to villain when he was sent off in the 75th minute. The defender picked up two quick yellow cards and will now miss the second leg.
Global almost killed off the match late on, but Home goalkeeper and Singapore international Hassan Sunny kept both Hikaru Minegishi and Misagh Bahadoran at bay with two crucial saves.
Home’s efforts were ultimately rewarded right at the final whistle. A late corner found Plazibat in the box and he pounced on the chance to claim the equalizer and increase their away goal tally.
The two sides will meet again on May 30 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore to determine which side advances to the zonal final in August. — CAL
