JP Voltes Gain First Division Promotion

JP Voltes FC were promoted to the United Football League First Division after manhandling Team Socceroo FC, 9-0, in the second leg of the UFL Promotion/Relegation Play-Off, Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. JP Voltes won the Play-Offs 12-1 on aggregate.

The result saw Team Socceroo return to the Second Division after two years in the top flight. On the other hand, JP Voltes join Laos FC as the two newly-promoted teams for next year’s League.

JP Voltes skipper Chihiro Noda fired five emphatic goals. Dominic Del Rosario, on loan from Kaya FC, was also on the mark with a hat-trick. John Celiz was the other goalscorer for the team formerly known as Manila All Japan.

Del Rosario got the ball rolling for JP Voltes in the 17th minute. The forward intercepted the ball and dribbled all the way to the Socceroo box then sent a shot past goalkeeper Baba Sampana.

Noda got the next two goals in the 34th and 45th minute to put Voltes ahead by three goals at the half. The forward’s first goal came from a lob from Takashi Odawara. The second goal came after Noda rounded up Sampana in the box.

Del Rosario made it 4-0 in the 49th minute. The midfielder made a wonderful run to the box and applied just enough power to lob it over Sampana.

Celiz added further damage with a fifth goal in the 57th minute. The right winger finished off the counter following a Socceroo corner.

Del Rosario and Noda added the cherries on top to cement their promotion to the First Division and to complete their hat-tricks. The pair combined for a total of eight goals against Socceroo.

Meanwhile, the UFL Cup returns on Thursday, August 13. Manila Jeepney FC take on Forza FC in the first game at 5:15 PM. Kaya FC and late inclusion Nomads FC battle in the second game at 8:15 PM. Both games will be at Rizal Memorial Stadium. — CAL
