Meralco Win Third Straight; Kaya Edge Davao

FC Meralco Manila continued their hot start in the Philippines Football League with a 1-0 win over JPV Marikina yesterday at the Binan Football Stadium in Binan, Laguna.

James Younghusband scored the only goal of the game to put Meralco at the top of the standings with nine points. It was also the Sparks’ first clean sheet in the League after conceding in their last two games against Stallion Laguna and Ilocos United.

The Sparks skipper won the match with a perfectly timed header in the 64th minute. Phil Younghusband assisted on the goal with the inviting corner kick.

JPV Marikina pressed on for a late equalizer and were almost rewarded at the death. Former Meralco player Kouichi Belgira could have scored but sent his effort just wide.

In the evening match, Kaya FC Makati scored twice in the first half to beat Davao Aguilas, 2-0. Jordan Mintah and Adam Reed found the back of the net for Kaya in the win. However, the match finished with both teams playing with ten men after both Davao’s Jason Cordova and Reed were sent off in either half.

The League continues today at the Binan Football Stadium. Stallion Laguna host Global Cebu in Sunday’s only game. Kick off is at 4:00 PM and the match will be shown live on PTV 4. — CAL
