PFF Unveils Squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

The Philippine Football Federation announced the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers earlier today.

The Azkals will face Bahrain on June 11 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan. The team will fly to Doha, Qatar to face Yemen on June 16. Yemen are unable to host the June 16 game because of an ongoing conflict in the country.

Stephan Schrock makes his return to the Azkals lineup after a much-publicised falling out between the midfielder and head coach Thomas Dooley last year. Schrock’s last inclusion in the squad was the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup held in Maldives.

Joining Schrock in the lineup are four new reinforcements — Iain Ramsey, Luke Woodland, Stephan Palla, and Kevin Ingreso. Ramsay played for Melbourne City FC in the A-League in Australia. Luke Woodland plays for Oldham Athletic in the Football League One, on loan from Bolton Wanderers FC. Stephan Palla plays for Wolfsberger AC in Austria. Ramsay, Woodland, and Palla were featured in a previous article.

Another new face in the squad is midfielder Kevin Ingreso. Ingreso has been on the Azkals radar since 2011 and currently plays for VfR Neumünster in Germany’s Regionalliga Nord (IV).

Javier Patiño is also included in the squad. The forward was unable to join the team on three occasions — the Challenge Cup, the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup, and the recent friendly against Bahrain.

The Azkals squad include: Amani Aguinaldo, Misagh Bahadoran, Kenshiro Daniels, Patrick Deyto, Neil Etherdige, Rob Gier, Juani Guirado, Mark Hartmann, Jerry Lucena, Manny Ott, Patrick Reichelt, Simone Rota, Daisuke Sato, Martin Steuble, Tomas Trigo, Dennis Villanueva, and Phil Younghusband.

James Younghusband, Ruben Doctora, OJ Porteria, Simon Greatwich, Alvaro Silva, and Roland Muller are the notable players that missed out the squad selection.

Ticket details for the first 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match were also revealed today. Tickets will be available via TicketWorld. Below are the prices for the June 11 match at Philippine Sports Stadium:

Category 1 – P531.80
Category 2 – P331.40

The PFF will also provide a shuttle service on June 11. The bus ticket costs P331.40 and will serve as a round trip ticket to and from the stadium. — CAL
